Quang Tri is located in northern Central Vietnam, Quang Tri Province is surrounded by Quang Binh Province on the north, Thua Thien Hue Province on the south, Savannakhet, Laos on the west, and the East Sea on the east, with 75 kilometers ( 47 mi ) of seaside. DMZ OR DEMILITARIZED ZONE
From 1954 to 2975, the Ben Hai River served as the demarcation line between the South and the North of Vietnam. The Demilitarized Zone ( DMZ ) consisted of an area of 5 square km. During the Vietnam War, this area was the scene of some of the bloodiest battles: Dong Ha, Quang Tri, Con Thien, Cam Lo, Camp Carroll, The Rockpile and Khe Sanh Combat base.
